  30. Have you ever tried looking for a letter you wrote six months ago
  31. but could not find the diskette you stored the file on?  Or, do
  32. you just have so many disks lying around you can not seem to keep
  33. track of them all?
  34.  
  35. CatMan-DO!: A management tool to help you keep track of all your
  36. files stored on diskettes.  CatMan will allow you to catalog and
  37. cross-reference data files, programs, or any other files you
  38. have.
  39.  
  40. How often have your tried to cram all the file names onto the
  41. diskette label? Instead, mark the diskette with the same
  42. identifier you entered into the Label field. Now, CatMan can
  43. track the files by the Label.
  44.  
  45. The automatic Bulk Load feature is the quickest method to build
  46. your database.  Simply pop in a diskette, provide the label name
  47. and hit the enter key.

  49. Files  listed in CatMan can be identified by:
  50.  
  51.      File Name  the DOS file
  52.    Where It Is  a directory path or disk location
  53.   Package Name  an application name
  54.          Label  a personalized identifier
  55.     Categories  up to 6 cross-reference words
  56.  
  57. The Description in CatMan provides an open text area for each
  58. entry.  This area is useful for any notes or comments you may
  59. have about the file. For example, a software librarian may use
  60. this area to hold a copy of the FILE_ID.DIZ or track who has
  61. borrowed it.

  63. For those who prefer printed material, CatMan can print a listing
  64. by Label, File Name or Package Name to keep in a notebook.
  65.  
  66. CatMan can also compare filenames across many disks to uncover
  67. duplicates.  From this you can determine the existence of older
  68. data and older versions of programs. Then, you can go back and
  69. delete those old files and reclaim previously unusable disk space
  70. or even entire diskettes.

  72. With CatMan you will have your entire data disk library cataloged
  73. and organized in no time.  And, once you have loaded all your
  74. information, the time you save finding what you need will be
  75. incredible.

  104. Step 1 : Turn on your PC and wait for DOS prompt

  106. Step 2 : Create a sub-directory by typing

  139. Type  CATMANDO  ?  <CR> (at DOS prompt) to display the following
  140. list of command line options :

  143.      NO-PRT-CHK : bypass checking printer status
  144.  
  145.            MONO : force CatMan-DO! into Black & White mode
  146.

  148.         VERSION : Version and Compile Date
  149.

  151. Flat screen PCs and lap tops may require the MONO parameter to
  152. operate properly.

  156.                          Getting Started

  159. CatMan-DO! is menu driven.  It is intuitively easy to use.  A
  160. Help Box or Q-Card appears at the bottom of the screen.  It
  161. displays "what to do now" information.
  162.  
  163. Hold down the Alt key for several seconds to activate a pop-up
  164. window displaying a list of Hot Keys. These features are
  165. available at any time by pressing either the Alt key and the
  166. appropriate letter or the correct Function Key :
  167.  
  168.     Alt N : Note Pad                      [F2]
  169.     Alt S : Save & Continue               [F3]
  170.     Alt X : Save & Exit to DOS            [F4]
  171.     Alt T : Tag List (Display)            [F5]
  172.       ESC : I am done with this ...       [F10]

  174. The ESC key and F10 have the same effect. It will let you escape
  175. from where you are and return to where you were. Pressing the ESC
  176. key enough times will return to the top level Main Menu.

  179. WARNING : You should never exit CatMan-DO! by turning off the
  180.           power. This could corrupt your data files.

  184.                          Using the Mouse
  185. ════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

  187. CatMan-DO! will automatically detect whether or not a mouse is
  188. active.  If detected, a mouse character will appear on your
  189. screen.
  190.  
  191. The mouse is set up to respond to a single button click or drag.
  192. Both buttons on a 2 button mouse will respond in the same manner.
  193.  
  194. You can scroll through a list (or text) by dragging the upper or
  195. lower potion of the pop up window.  For example, select one of
  196. the topics from the Bulk Load  menu.  Move the mouse pointer to
  197. the lower portion of the window and depress the mouse button.  The
  198. screen will scroll downward until the end of text is reached.
  199. Move the move pointer toward the top of the window to scroll
  200. toward the beginning of the text.

  202. To close the current window, move the pointer outside the window
  203. boundary and click the mouse.
  204.  
  205. To select a menu item, click once to highlight and again to
  206. activate.  A single click outside the current window will close
  207. the window (has the same affect as pressing the ESC key).
